Liturgical Ministries

As with many other ministries at St. Margaret of York, good liturgy depends on the volunteers who are involved! An exciting way to become involved in our parish is to spend just a little extra time at weekly Mass in one of our liturgical ministries.


Altar Servers

Extraordinary Ministers

Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist assist the Ordinary Ministers, Bishops, Priests, and Deacons, in the distribution of the Body and Blood of Our Lord when the Priest requires assistance. All minister of Holy Communion should receive sufficient spiritual, theological, and practical preparation to fulfill their role with knowledge and show the greatest reverence for the Most Holy Eucharist by their demeanor, their attire, and the manner in which they handle the consecrated bread or wine. Lectors proclaim the Scriptures during Eucharistic celebrations.

Music Ministry

The SMOY music ministry includes the adult choir and children's choir. The choirs provide music for Sunday Masses during the year. Choirs rehears on Tuesdays.

Sacristans & Mass Coordinators

Sacristans train Mass Coordinators, clean liturgical vessels, and order the hosts and wine used to celebrate the Eucharist. Mass Coordinators are responsible for making sure liturgical ministers roles are covered for the celebration of Mass and finding replacements for the no shows.

Sound Tech Ministry

Sound Techs assure the audio and visual media is effectively used at liturgical celebrations and occasional events. Responsibilities include adjusting the sound board so the assembly can clearly hear what is spoken or sung, audio recordings, and announcement reels and worship lyrics.

Ushers

Ushers welcome all worship and assist them through greeting, helping people find a place to sit, collecting the offertory collection and assisting with the preparation of the gifts and communion procession.

Worship Commission

The Liturgy and Worship Commission continues to inform itself through prayer, self-education, and additional formal education (e.g., seminars, workshops, etc.) about the intricacies, riches, and mystery of liturgy and worship within the Catholic tradition.Their guide includes the liturgical reforms of the Second Vatican Council.These initiatives enrich our parish worship and liturgies.
